See advert by Governor Okowa of Delta celebrating a convicted James Ibori

I can't think of any country in the world where a governor will openly celebrate a convicted criminal who is in jail serving his sentence. Nigeria is a unique country, just anything goes. Both known and convicted thieves are celebrated, men standing trial for stealing our money get the best SANs.

I used to think that Governor Patrick Okowa of Delta State is one of the bright men in government, little did I know that he is one of "them", the set of men who think there is no place for morality.

Sadly, one of the journalists on RayPower's Political Platform who used to talk like he won't be part of acts that celebrate such absurdity is the media aide to Governor Okowa. #NaijaGoBetter

I see many Deltans supporting Ibori irrespective of the Billions he stole for himself and family which should have been used to develop their state and make it one of the best in Nigeria. What can I say? Nothing. But I think Governor Okowa should send someone to wish Ibori well in prison rather than celebrate a convict openly. That action is wrong on many fronts for a sitting governor.

When people corrupt, wealth is glorified irrespective of its source, this has made people turns professional ethic to fraud practices.

This is just a rare expression of genuine friendship! I commend Okowa tremendously.

I doubt if Olu Jacobs wrote this. In any case, it is his personal view. One question, does Ibori being in prison suggest that his friends should abandon him?.

When James Ibori was in office as Delta State Governor despite the many allegations against him, many media outfits struggled to have advert placements in their newspapers on his birthday. It was huge business for them and I vividly recall that some newspapers had about ten pages of advert dedicated to James Ibori. For me Okowa demonstrated courage and true loyalty. I like such.

The many sycophantic politicians in Delta State should bury their heads in shame. Of the multitude that benefitted from James Ibori political patronage, it is sad that only Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa found it important to publicly wish him well. Whereas, when the going was good, almost all top politicians in Delta State would struggle for a space in the newspapers to ensure that their names are associated with Ibori. Too bad! Good that Ibori is alive and learning new lessons about human traits.

The imprisonment of Ibori must not steal way the fact that so many persons were empowered by him in Delta State. In simple terms, he was just akin to the infamous ‘Ali Baba’. Many politicians that came to Delta then did not have cars and shoes until James Ibori made them special assistants . advisers or commissioners. Today, some are senators, Ex Ministers, etc. It is really unfortunate that Dr. Okowa is now the only person that remembers Ibori’s Birthday. On this, I respect Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and doff my hat for his appreciation of Ibori’s past political generosity.

I see nothing wrong with this advertisement oooh! Simple logic suggests that we should not abandon our friends in their times of trail.

Why should anyone be worried about this advert? A friend in need is a friend indeed. Please this life true lesson! I await the day James Ibori will be released to count the many cowards that have abandoned him. Congrats to Dr. Okowa on this! It is a testament of good friendship.

My late father told me that in all circumstances we must never forget people that helped us climb life’s difficult ladder. I guess that is what Okowa in good wisdom demonstrated in congratulating James Ibori.

James Ononefe Ibori remains a hero of sort to Deltans, his present situation really doest not matter. The man was a good politician and many citizens of Delta loved him. It is just very painful that many persons that are helped easily forget their beneficiaries. Okowa is a good man. FULL STOP!

See Olu, see talk! What is bad about the Governor of a State wishing an ex governor well on his birthday. Ibori deserves more than such from Okowa. If really there are still some truthful persons in this country what Okowa did is the normal action a man should take when his friend is in the cage .

The fact is that in Delta state, it is hard to find a politician of today whether in opposition or not that did not benefit from Ibori’s governance. Okowa just did what is expected of a loyal politician.

The question for me is where is Ex Governor Uduaghan’s advert? Wayo man! He is one man that does not want to associate himself with the troubled James Ibori despite the naked truth that James Ibori killed Okowa’s chances of being Governor of Delta in 2007 in favour of his cousin, Emmanuel Uduaghan! Okowa is actually a man of good conscience!
