Reports Of Hardship In Nigeria Are ‘Mere Propaganda’ – says MD of NAN

Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Bayo Onanuga, has accused the media of “over-sensationalization”, and insisted reports about hardship appeared to be a “mere propaganda”, inflamed by those who lost the 2015 election.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Onanuga said his findings showed that the cost of food items had not gone up, contrary to reports in the media.

“I was in Bauchi and Jos at the weekend, I also found that food was cheap everywhere,” said Mr. Onanuga, who appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari last May.

He continued: “In our hotel, we paid about N700 for a plate of semovita, or eba with a choice of cat fish or chicken. On the roadside, I found to my surprise that with just N1000, I bought over 50 oranges, two giant water melon and 10 pieces of sweet potato.

“I had experienced a similar thing in the market at Abuja, where I found that with N1,400, I could make a big vegetable soup, with tomato, pepper and roasted Titus fish.

“Are the media and bloggers really painting a correct image of our country? It’s time for the media to objectively conduct a reality check about our reports, whether we are not over sensationalising so-called hardship that we talked about.”

Mr. Onanuga also faulted recent media reports that due to the grinding hardship, foreign airlines fly almost empty out of Nigeria.

He said, "My daughter was on the Virgin Atlantic Flight that took off from Lagos to London today. I asked her to find out whether the plane was filled up or going to London near empty judging by the noisy campaign from a section of the country about the ‘hardship’ in our country.

“My daughter sent back this one-line text, after boarding: 'daddy, the flight was filled up o'.

“This makes me to wonder whether all the seeming orchestrated campaign in the media was not mere propaganda to make the Buhari regime look really bad.”

Why won't he lend his voice and support when he has just been given the opportunity to have a cut of his own national cake? Can millions of unemployed youths afford the pot of soup he is talking about or the type of flight ticket he bought for his daughter to London? Mr Onanuga failed to tell us the cost of that ticket. What a balderdash of a talk by Mr Bayo Onanuga.

He has no idea of the reality in Nigeria. If he was well informed and had a good description of his task, his concept would have focused on giving Nigerians hope as done by our Dear Presidentt Buhari not deceit. This man is not fit for this task.

Can someone ask the noise maker if he lives in a rented apartment or he's a landlord! I don't blame him now. This regime only favour Buhari's appointees, when a Minister call N30m for a rent and N3m for furniture allowance, why wouldn't he make noise. U re a disgarce to South-West, Mr Bayo Onanuga. Metseeeeeeeew

Nigeria is where she is now because of stupid idiots like Bayo onanuga when they get into power, they will steal all the money in our national purse.

Why wouldn't he say this rubbish when he is having a share of his own national cake and sending his daughter to London. Do you know how much it cost to fly Virgin Atlantic to London? that's more than annual salary of people receiving minimum wage!

For the past 20 years, i have never see a blinded talk and reasoning like this Bayo Onanuga's. Let him tell us the location where the food items he bought cost that low. Bayo read this and read it clear, bcos i want a feedback from you! (1) One big size of water melon cost between #800/900, (2) Three pieces of orange cost #100, so #1000 will only give you 30 pieces of oranges. (3) Small basket of sweet potatoes will at present cost #1500, (4)a virgin ticket to London is presently about #400k as against about #150k. tell me, how many Nigerians can pay for their daughters to travel to London this time?

So tell me Mr. Onanuga if all the rubbish you vomited is not just to please your boss, Buhari? Let me advise Mr., in times like this, it pays to keep quiet than to hang yourself on an electric pole as you just did to please your pay master.

Who is this man and what is he made of?. Not sure he stays in this country, such a fool, can you imagine this man that has blood running in his system saying that N1, 400 can comfortably make a pot of soup, how many Nigerians can afford that just for a pot of soup?. Infact, he has by himself called the attention of efcc for his checks. Are we talking of an average Nigerian or a common man?. Because he has started collecting reasonable salary warrants him to speak nonsense, please this kind of person cannot represent us at all especially in that portfolio he is.
