Police confirm death of man brutalised by soldiers allegedly on orders of landlady

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, has confirmed the death of a man, Adeola Oyekan, brutalised by soldiers of 174 Battalion in Ikorodu, Lagos.

ASP Oyeyemi assured the deceased’s family that all the perpetrators would be brought to book.

He said, “The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has directed that the landlady and the son should be arrested. Through that, the son will be able to identify the soldiers.”

Oyekan’s case is coming two weeks after some soldiers of the 174 Battalion allegedly brutalised a woman, Ruth Orji.

I think Nigerian soldiers really need some urgent reorientation, for them to appreciate the fact that the world has since moved away from such brutal acts.

  9. It's saddened that our military has lost its core values in terms of recruitment. Our forces are recruiting toddlers, armed robbers and equipped them with arms and ammunition and they in turn, turns against the civil society, the poor masses. Military is to defend the country against any form external aggression. But due to lack of employment, the military has become a succur to unemployed youth who doesn't understand the rules of the of the military thereby becoming abusive to all and sundry. Two weeks ago it happened in the tactical command, Makurdi, in Lagos it's daily, Rivers state, same thing. If they're redeployed to Maiduguri, they protest and go AWOL.
