I Approved Transactions For NNPC – VP Osinbajo

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has confirmed that he approved some transactions for the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation when President Buhari was on medical vacation in UK.

Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, minister of state for petroleum, had accused Maikanti Baru, GMD of the NNPC, of awarding contracts without due process, an allegation that has led to speculations.

But in a series of tweets on Thursday, spokesman of the vice-president, Laolu Akande, said Osinbajo had approved the contracts as part of necessary actions to deal with a backlog of unpaid cash calls.

VP Osinbajo's spokesman tweets: “In response to media inquiries on NNPC joint venture financing, VP Osinbajo, as Ag President approved recommendations after due diligence & adherence to established procedure.
Action necessary to deal with huge backlog of unpaid cash calls which Buhari administration inherited and also to incentivize much needed fresh investments in the oil & gas sector.”

So, for starters, claims making the rounds that Buhari approved the contracts on sick bed are not true.
