Nigerian Lady Found Guilty In UK, To Be Sentenced With Brother

Fiona Onasany, former Labour whip, has been found guilty of perverting the course of justice following an Old Bailey retrial for lying to police to avoid a speeding charge.

The 35-year-old solicitor was accused of colluding with her brother
Festus after her car was clocked going 41mph in a 30mph zone in the village of Thorney near Peterborough, England.

The MP, who was elected in June 2017 but stood down as a Labour whip last month, was found guilty of one count of perverting the course of justice following a retrial at the Old Bailey.

She will be sentenced alongside her brother on a date yet to be determined.

Festus, 34, from Cambridge, admitted perverting the course of justice three times to avoid speeding points.

A Labour Party spokeswoman said: “The Labour Party is deeply disappointed in Fiona Onasanya’s behaviour. It falls well below what is expected of politicians. She should now resign.

“Fiona Onasanya is being administratively suspended from the Labour Party and therefore the whip with immediate effect.”

Should Onasanya stand down as an MP it will trigger a by election in the uber marginal seat of Peterborough which Labour won by just 607 votes last year.

In 2017 Onasanya snatched the seat from arch Brexiteer Stewart Jackson, who went on to become chief of staff for David Davis, in one of the biggest upsets of the night.
